Empowering Ministry: UCG's Design Solutions and the St. Joseph Motor Pilgrimage Success

At Unapologetic Catholic Gear (UCG), our mission extends beyond offering faith-based apparel; we strive to provide affordable design solutions for local church ministries that may not have the means to access professional design services.

Over the past 24 months, we have had the privilege of collaborating with Branko Poljak and Jim Jankiewicz, who represent John the Baptist Bonnyrigg Men's Group, on various projects. Their dedication and effort have been instrumental in the success of these initiatives. Among these, the standout event of 2023 was the annual St. Joseph Motor Pilgrimage, a three-day journey for men on motorbikes or in cars.

The pilgrimage, which covered over 800 km through four dioceses and included stops at three parishes, brought together over 80 men for worship and fellowship. As we look forward to its fifth year in 2025, the growing participation and enthusiasm suggest that this tradition will continue to flourish.

The Design Process Behind the Sancti Ioseph Equites Logo

Creating the logo for Sancti Ioseph Equites was a journey marked by a strong vision and collaborative effort. From the outset, Branko and Jim were clear on one essential requirement: the logo must be distinctly Catholic and incorporate elements related to motors. This directive set the stage for a creative process that was both focused and meaningful.

A significant part of the design process involved careful consideration of the Latin wording. After some deliberation, we settled on the phrase "Sancti Ioseph Equites - Deus Et Machina," which translates to "Horsemen of Saint Joseph - God and the Machine." This motto perfectly encapsulates the initiative's dual emphasis on faith and pilgrimage on motor back.

The final design masterfully blends these elements. The logo features a crucifix at its core, symbolising the initiative's deep Catholic roots. This is flanked by pistons, representing the project's mechanical aspect. Together, these symbols create a powerful visual identity that reflects Sancti Ioseph Equites' mission and values.

The promotional pamphlet served as an extension of our newly designed logo, providing a detailed and engaging means to spread the word about the pilgrimage. Jim and Branko, as well as our team, are thrilled with the final result, so we are optimistic about having established a long-term partnership.

We look forward to continuing to support the Sancti Ioseph Equites initiative for as long as they need our assistance.
